Types of Chemical Bonding
+ What is Chemical Bonding?
-We define bonds as forces that hold groups of atoms togather, and function as a unit.
+ We have studied two types of bonds.
- [ Ionic Bonds ] These result from the interaction of metal and non-metal atoms resulting in the formation of ions which bond to each other by electrostatic attractions.
- [ Covalent Bonds ] Consider what would happen if 2 hydrogen atoms approach.
Neither one of the atoms has a stable arrangement of electrons. As the atoms approach each other, they join to share their electrons and become stable.
